This is the regular session that occurs after the initial intake with your therapist. Typically, sessions are scheduled once a week. During certain points in therapy it may be necessary to schedule twice a week based on each client’s needs and goals.
Individual therapy can address a host of different concerns related to your mental health. Individual therapy can be used alone or alongside other treatment programs (IOP, PHP, or Rehab) and/or medication options. Individual therapy will combine elements of evidenced-based therapies (CBT, DBT, CPT) to best assist with your individual concerns and goals. Individual therapy is beneficial in helping you learn how to manage symptoms related to depression, trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety, addiction or chemical dependency, among other mental health issues. Individual therapy can also be used for more common life difficulties such as divorce or separation, grief and loss, or stress. Individual therapy is a process in which both the therapist and client work together to attain specific goals that are important to the client.
Therapy promotes self-awareness, identifies destructive patterns, and helps you gain a better understanding of yourself and your life experiences. Whatever your concerns, therapy can be an adaptive and healthy way of coping with the problems in your life. Therapy can be the first step that is taken to start to improve one’s quality of life. It can help provide more depth and purpose to your life. Good therapy involves elements of a strong therapeutic relationship with your therapist along with a willingness to work within the therapy process. Some sessions may have you feeling better and other sessions may bring out emotionally upsetting aspects of your life. Over time, though, therapy can help teach you an effective way of managing these difficulties and help you focus on the direction you want to head in your life. Whatever brings you to therapy, know that we aim to provide a safe and supportive environment free of judgment.
